Events in Dublin at Christmas

There is no shortage of gigs, theatre or cinema in Dublin this Christmas. Whether ballet, electro, or comedy is your bag, there is surely something to tickle your fancy. From homegrown acts such as Le Galaxie and Glen Hansard to international acts such as Mumford & Sons and Lower Dens, Dublin is buzzing this Yuletide season.

The Strypes -Tuesday, 18th December 2012

No.1 in NME’s list of Top 5 bands to watch The Strypes make a welcome return to Dublin this December.

The Strypes are a 4-piece beat group from Cavan. They beat group! They winkle pick! They turtle neck! They got love if you want it! They billy boy arnold! They slim harpo! They can’t buy me love! They gotta dance just to keep from cryin’! They eat sleep MOD! They yardbird! They groove up slowly! They mojo filter! They got their mojo working! They mojo magazine! They use the word ‘mojo’ too much! They dazed and confused! They rolling stone! They merseybeat! They woolly bully! They goose-step mama! They Flat Lake floosy with the floy-floy! They muddy waters! They john lee hooker!

With an average age of just 15, these young mods from Cavan are all over the radio with the lead track from their first ep “You can’t judge a book by the cover”.

The Nutcracker - 5th – 9th December
A Christmas fixture around the world, The Nutcracker comes to the Bord Gais Energy Theatre for one night. This beloved ballet, which tells the tale of Christmas toys coming to life, will charm, enchant and fill you with a keen sense of Christmas wonder. And for those on a budget, The Lighthouse Cinema will screen the ballet on December 16th.
